Gala Bingo has teamed up with Coronation Street and the charity Male Cancer Awareness Campaign to try and break the world record of the biggest bingo balls ever used in a bingo game. The imagery also suggests and encourages men to check themselves for testicular cancer regularly. The event will take place 18th July. By the end of June Gala had already managed to raise £10,500 by donating 20% of their profits on their Corrie bingo games to the great cause. The event will hopefully increase that number even further. MCAC ambassador and model Rhian Sugden will be present at the event to accept the cheque.
A lot of former and current Coronation Street stars will also be present and join the bingo game. Adam Rickitt (played Nick Tilsley from 1997 until 2004), Steven Arnold (played Ashley Peacock), Shobna Gulati (played Sunita Alahan), Angela Griffin (played Fiona Middleton) and Sherrie Hewson (played Maureen Holdsworth) will be present as well as actor Jeff Brazier. Players have the chance to win a “golden ticket”, which would win them an exclusive tour through the Coronation Street set guided by one of the stars. This once in a lifetime chance is a dream come true for any Coronation Street fan.
In preparation for the “bingo game with the largest set of balls” Gala have procured 90 bingo balls with a diameter of 70 cm. In order to play the game with such big bingo balls, the aforementioned stars will be dropping the bingo balls out of the window and onto the famous cobbled Coronation Street. Additionally, representative of the Guinness World Records committee will be present to confirm that Gala Bingo has indeed beaten the world record. The cheque for the money raised in the name of Male Cancer Awareness Campaign will then be accepted by Rhian Sugden.
Gala Bingo has come up with a fantastic way of raising awareness for MCAC but also for men’s health in general. That a world record will be broken along the way is only an added bonus. On top of that, this is a great way to celebrate Coronation Street’s set move to MediaCityUK in Greater Manchester. For 53 years the show was filmed at the Granada Studios in Manchester and it’s a fitting way to say goodbye to the old set with some of the most loved characters present.
